St. Joseph Medical Center recently announced a significant investment of $92 million to upgrade its facilities and equipment. The hospital opened in 1887, and is located at 1401 St. Joseph Parkway, in Houston, Texas. It’s the city’s oldest hospital.
In recent years, ownership of the hospital has changed multiple times. The current owner is Steward Health Care, which is the largest for-profit hospital system in the United States.
St. Joseph Medical Center has over 500 physician on its medical staff. It has an emergency department, is designated as a Certified Level III Trauma Center, and is a Primary Stroke Center. It provides heart/cardiac and surgical care, and has an intensive care unit (ICU), among other clinical lines of service.
Hospital leadership plans to kick off the facility renovation with a new cardiac catheterization lab, updated interventional radiology rooms, and a dedicated women’s imaging unit. What remains to be seen is how this substantial investment will improve the quality of care and patient safety at St. Joseph Medical Center.
