Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital medical malpractice attorney/lawyer

As a Houston, Texas medical malpractice attorney, I have handled countless cases and lawsuits involving care provided at Memorial Hermann hospitals in Harris County, Texas.

Memorial Hermann Health System is the largest nonprofit hospital chain in Southeast Texas and seems to be constantly expanding. One of the more recent hospitals that it opened is Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital, located at 27800 Northwest Freeway, Cypress, TX 77433. This hospital aims to serve the fast-growing population of Cypress and Northwest Houston.

When it opened in March 2017, Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital initially had 81 beds. During its first year of operation, the hospital had 2,591 admissions, 1,138 surgeries, 1,138 cardiac Cath Lab procedures, 15,834 emergency room visits, and delivered 793 babies. Its services include breast care, cancer services, children services, a diagnostic laboratory, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, an emergency room, heart and vascular services, and imaging center, neuroscience services, orthopedics, physical therapy, surgical services (including endoscopy and general, laparoscopic, orthopedic, gynecological, urological, colorectal, neuro, brain, spinal, plastic, vascular, ear nose and throat, podiatry, oral maxillofacial, and head and neck surgery), women’s services (including labor and delivery of babies), and wound care.

In 2018, Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital announced an expansion project that should be finalized by the summer of 2019. This construction work will result in a total of 105 beds, including four additional neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) incubators and equipment, 20 additional medical/surgical beds, four additional intensive care unit (ICU) beds, a new 10-bed observation unit with two additional beds in the cardiovascular recovery unit, one additional endoscopy suite, one additional cardiac catheterization lab, and four additional rooms for the emergency department.

Quality of care concerns

The other day, I was looking out a window at Dave & Buster’s, on the Katy Freeway, and saw a Memorial Hermann billboard claiming that one of its hospitals has Houston’s undisputed leaders in neuroscience. I believe that most people understandably interpret such advertising to mean that the hospital employees top-notch physicians. That is not the case, though.

Many of my clients are surprised to learn that, under Texas law, physicians are not allowed to be hospital employees. In fact, in lawsuits, hospitals invariably try to put as much distance as possible between themselves and the conduct of physicians on their medical staffs. Further, Texas law sets an essentially-impossible standard of proof to hold hospitals responsible for allowing doctors to practice at their facilities.

An experienced medical malpractice lawyer knows how to look at the facts of the potential case and see what healthcare providers are responsible for the injuries of the patient. Typical quality of care concerns that I have investigated involving Memorial Hermann hospitals include inadequate staffing of registered nurses, no one coming to the room when the call button is pressed repeatedly, failure of nurses to inform doctors when the condition of the patient is deteriorating, and botched communication of critical lab or diagnostic radiology test results.

Unlike the conduct of doctors, hospitals are responsible for the negligence and mistakes of their employees, including nurses, techs, and other personnel.
