Texas hospital-doctor conspiracy of silence exposed

Almost every day I see examples of the 'conspiracy of silence' in the medical community. Hospitals, nurses, and doctors see patients injured by the negligence of other health care providers, but do not want to say anything. In the tight-nit healh care community, there is frequent mentality of 'covering each other's back.'

An editorial in the Houston Chronicle provided an excellent example of this problem. Two courageous nurses who stood up for patient safety and the shocking, disappointing response of the hospital. Once the story went public, though, the hospital was forced to backtrack.

We need more doctors, nurses, and hospital administrators to show the professionalism and courage needed to stand up for patient safety and rights.
